Vintage vinyl didn't have a digital source....sounded? better too.
By: TranceBeforeWeDie. on 25 May 12, 16:12:27
It's still technically digital though. I hear people saying that vinyl is? better because it doesn't have a sampling rate, but doesn't the digital source itself?

Usually its 32 to 64 bit digital, significantly higher than? what you get from red book audio (16 bit). Depending on the engineer it could be entirely analogue, however that is usually reserved for artists that can can pony up the money (Phil Collins for instance).

One word,? quantization. Some of went to school for this...

People always say that Vinyl is better than Digital, but wasn't that vinyl just recorded from? a digital source? lol

Why is it is that the people handling the masters... and inspecting it for dirt and imperfections.. and not using? gloves? Do their fingerprints, body oils and bacteria growing on skin not constitute as dirt & imperections on the disk?

There are all kinds of turntables, many of which do play 7" and 12" recs and comes with an rpm adjuster. To answer your question, yes there are turntables that play all kinds of records and they are very easy to? come by, places like Frys and anywhere on the internet for great prices.

By: BlastFromYesterday. on 07 May 12, 00:17:26
How do they work with turntables? I hear about 7" and 12" and? different rpms. Will one turntable play all the different vinyl types? And are turntables easy to come by?

Why could anyone hate vinyl? When you buy a vinyl record you're getting a great product. Records have better? dynamic range compared to compressed mp3s. You also get artwork with every purchase. Vinyl sales beat mp3 sales this year! Go out and get yourself a record player and some nice speakers so you can experience the wonderful sound of vinyl.

Digital is very good quality but the weakness is that it cannot record or play back the bends and textures of a vinyl 100%. You can try but it never comes close to the real thing. There's something about Vinyl that gives it a very warm and PHYSICAL sound. Digital tends to be dynamically sharp & buzzy when it tries to play back Warmth it previously recorded. Even fades are iffy. I've been recording for a long time and nothing sounds warm like Vinyl. It's old? but amazingly tuff to beat.

Why isn't it done in clean room conditions? It would? reduced surface noise.

Unforunately not; this was tech-house. Tiesto? usually goes for trance, although he has gone for electro-house in more recent times.

What a load of absolute horse apples. All sound (and all energy for that matter!) behaves discretely, not as the "continuous wave" you're imagining. Even you analogue snobs today can't get around Quantum Mechanics. Also, a large fraction of modern music comes from sources other than microphones (which can also use digital components or produce a digital signal, by the? way).
By: Real1shepherd. on 26 Mar 12, 16:34:00
That depends. For almost 50yrs all music was recorded and mixed down unto tape. Even the digital snobs today can't get around the fact that music comes from analog mics-before digital processing takes place. Some of the new vinyl 180gr reissues are made from tape masters. Some records are made from digital sources.? Many of us feel tape sources sound the best. Just remember, all sound in nature is analog, not digital.
