the tipping system is incredibly flawed. if i'm a waiter who turns up to work, despite my? mother dying or something, because i need the money to bury her, i would be less likely to get tips because i look depressed. Non-tipping systems with increased minimum wages provide a more predictable and therefore more secure income, while still allowing big breasted bar tenders to get their fair share.

I found that all this tipping stuff makes american waiters come by your table WAY more often than in europe. On the one side it´s nice that you don´t have to look or even wave for a waiter if you want something but on the other hand it? was really irritating to me saying "I´m fine, thanks" what felt like every two minutes. I usualy (in europe) tip according to the service. Grumpy, lazy people don´t get anything, but nice, attentive waiters get a good tip.

I....disagree. If the service is bad, surely wait staff, bad food, no one shows up to offer water or coffee within a reasonable time period given the crowd in the restaurant...no tip. If the service is acceptable, I'm seated, handed a menu, asked about beverages, beverages appear, the food appears, and they check in once before the meal is over, 20%.? They did a reasonable job, and I didn't loose time. If it's great...30%+

in england, we hardly ever tip much, we don't have a system, like you tip 15% or something. we just take out the coins we have and leave them on the table, normally just over £5? if we liked the waiter and meal, and less if we were less satisfied.
By: renoloverxoxo. on 21 May 12, 00:29:04
You're supposed to tip anyone that performs a service.? Hair dressers, waitresses, baristas, etc. In Japan, however, the gratuity is added to the bill so Japanese tourists who come over don't think to tip.
By: SiKaHe. on 19 May 12, 07:53:28
Even though the wages of wider are higher in Europe, you are still expected to? tip

Yet another reason I'm moving to the UK when? I grow up.
By: KierneM. on 14 May 12, 14:20:23
And for those of you who take cabs, tipping is also made of awesome, as it supplements the percentage of fares we receive as our "pay". Twenty percent is awesome, or on a short, cheap ride (under $10), a couple of dollars is perfect. Keep? being awesome!
By: reinl7. on 13 May 12, 06:32:13
Actually, most of Europe does not include service charges. I usually just tip the amout that feels? good to me. However I NEVER tip when there's a service charge included, because the service charge is already like 35% of the total price.
By: cras17. on 12 May 12, 20:05:15
I would just like to know how much I'm going to pay when I walk into a store or look at a? menu. Tax and tip should all be included in the price quoted to me.

By: Donna Cameron. on 08 May 12, 15:20:59
Woah? that's complicated...tipping only happens in the UK if someone have given you fantastic service or if you feel generous

McDonalds is considered a differant industry, then the service industry. You don't tip fast food, but you do tip waiters, waitresses, hairdressers, the guy who fills your petrol, if any still exsist, massage tharapists,? ecpecially if you get a happy ending, the people who load your purchase into your car (not really standard, but after working at ACE Hardware I was very greatful to those that did), etc.
By: FireAngelNo89. on 01 May 12, 11:03:41
I finally understand! Living in Australia, I? never really got how to tip because it isn't a common thing, I've only done it a couple times when there was a tip jar. And... Do you really tip at McDonalds?

I don't think you should EVER apologize for? going out of your way to give someone something extra that you aren't obliged to give them... If anything I wouldn't tip higher only because they aren't appreciative of your tip. Unless it was like a 10 cent tip, there should be no reason to be insulted because they're giving you extra money...
By: kourosh89. on 30 Apr 12, 03:52:42
how much percent % do you tip the chef at mcdonalds? i usually tip a little less at mcdonalds than at sit down restaurants. like, usually at mcdonalds i only tip them 15% instead of the standard 20%, is this ok? i was at the drive thru and as usual the chef handed me my bag when i was done, and as usual i handed the chef the tip of 15%, but the she sighed? and said "ugh, typical." and walked back. all those times i insulted the chef by giving only 15%. do you think i should apologize?
