What do you mean not supposed..? I don't know if? a liger is able to reproduce, but if it is, this is exacly how a new specie can be made by nature. The narrator says indirectly that nature does not want hybrids, but evolution is a series of coinsidences.. Let's say a natural disaster forced tigers and lions to share the same habitat, who know's what would happen:)
