You don't need it for dogs that escape their collar you numnut, all you need? to do is tighten the flat collar. You are negligent

Its not called a choke? collar

It does require hands on training to learn to use it properly, but? it's only damaging to the dog's trachea if it's used wrong.

The proper title for the tool is "training collar". I've tried other tools--just buckle collars and and a fist full of treats (great with soft, easy dogs), a halti (Ididn't like it), and the prong. I hated the prong. It's a good tool for controlling the dog's head and I've used? it to keep a young dog from devouring every bit of trash she saw. But for teaching loose lead walking to a harder headed dog--I prefer the training collar. The signals are clearer.

Choke collars aren't just made with chains. There is also? the nylon version on it.

I use a choke collar, but I only recommend it for those know how properly use it. People should first realize these are train tools and not like you standard collar. I see to many people letting their dogs pratically kill themselves using these? devices. Make sure the collars at the top of the neck. The lease should be completely loose except for when you are do a split seconds corretion(releasing immediately).

its the sound and the touching of the collar against the neck.... if you yank it and hurt your dog its just because you are an idiot. learn to use one without hurting your dog and it will be just as effective? as any other walking method.

i have just bought a choking collar, i do have a boxer breed he is a 13 week old puppy, i kinda dont want to use it because i dont want to hurt him, but that is my last choice. his problem is he sees my 6 year old sister as a prey mate and i dont want him to grow up doing the same thing so what can i do ? instead of using the? choke collar if you say its not a good idea

I think chokers are great. I own large shepherd breed and rottweiler dogs. You do need to know proper use. Would not recommend for small or delicate breeds. If you? get a choker, look into the fur saver type, they can be used as a choker or not, and your dog does not get that nappy messed up fur around their neck. Never tie up your dog, but if you do, don't tie him to a choker!

Thank you for letting the public know that? choke collars are not a good idea!

no. many small breeds have a very weak neck. cmon, its a? chihuahua! i dont even think they make prongs for such tiny dogs... although i could be wrong. have you tried clicker training? or other training methods? prongs shouldnt be used up unless you know how to use em. it can lead to negative behaviors that you may not want.

The only thing that dogs can learn from the infliction of physical pain is terror, which is the same thing? that we would learn.

e-collars are perfect for off lead training. A great example of this would be hunting dogs. Once you get the desired? behavior you want the collar is no longer needed.
By: mikoz928. on 09 Apr 10, 09:27:37
Eric,? I am curious about what kind of collar is your favorite when it comes to training? And how do you give correction normally? I have tried every type of collar, flat ones, martingale, pinch collar, choke collar and gentle leader. My dog is used to the pressure of martingale and choke collar and I end up with the pinch collar now. But I would hate it very much if he needs to wear it for the rest of his life. Thank you for all the great sharings!

beginning dog training from a store like PetsMart and/or Petco is far from what one learns eventually if they are serious and spend lots of money and time reading books, studying dog behavior and attending seminars before they would even come close to being considered good! Believe me, I know, I went through PetsMarts three month training program and now 10 years later, I know? the difference 8-) I gave up mentoring for ABC College because of the quality experienced from their trainers 8-)
By: caninewhispers. on 30 Sep 09, 13:11:15
Wow... I hope that's not true at most stores! I train dog trainers for Petco and we spend 3 months training them. Yes there is a giant book (2 in fact) that they have to read and learn, then there is a written test and they have to practice with me before they are certified so that I can be sure? they know what they are doing... I guess I'm a "good chef" and we have some high quality "burger kings" around here!
