I "clearly" know who you are. YW, for the video.? I like that saying. I would like to add, "Obstacles are what you see, when you take your eyes off the goal." Glad you enjoyed Jill doing so well. God bless, and God speed. Brother.

Well, that's the point. We tend to use our matches and lighters first, and forget about the ferro rod/knife combo, so it is nice to have them as a standby, when all else runs out! ...And know how to use them! ;-) Thank you for? watching, ~Kev~
By: unclearless. on 12 May 12, 08:38:52
LOL, no,? you don't have to be kind at all about technique, it was more about tact with a beautiful girl, not about the video. Ya know, people would say things about "My rod and you" etc... I agree,It was funny as hell!! lol, AND it is not as easy as it looks! Thanks for watching and a great comment! ~Kevin~
By: stewartx5. on 30 Apr 12, 21:29:18
LOL. Of course, if you have? a ferro rod, why wouldn't you also have matches and/or a lighter?

A journey of a thousand miles? starts with a bucket of rice. Thanks for the video.
By: oneeyedpatriot. on 06 Apr 12, 19:05:38
That was a very convincing? and well done video. What kind of knife was that, again?
By: sjntube. on 09 Mar 12, 13:19:35
Nice video for your first time! Cotton balls work great. I've also gotten into the habit of saving dryer lint from the trap. It works amazing! Chap Stick works great as a petroleum in a handy carrying case. It'll allow the cotton to burn? much longer. NICE JOB!
By: McHenryAnge. on 04 Mar 12, 05:01:23
Do we really have to be kind because sneaking around the plate to throw sparks was a little funny. But credit due, it took me more tries and lots of flying tender to figure out? pulling the rod was better than pushing the knife.

Good job Jill. ;-)?

@unclearless @ Kev: Hehehehe.. ROFL....and you know this! Not that I'm admitting? to anything. ;-)

Jill said "Thanks so much for? asking, where I talk about shredding the cotton to aerate it, to create more surface area was cut, I was nervous and it didn't come across clearly. It's not treated, though the manufacturers may have added a preservative/dessicant while packaging. I want to try treating the cotton with petroleum, as suggested by Kev and others. Thanks again for the question, and for your interest. I'm definitley encouraged to learn more about all this:)"
By: unclearless. on 21 Feb 12, 08:53:32
Jill said? "You're welcome, glad you liked it! Yes the steel wool and battery method intrigues me because they are two commonplace items you would not normally associate! Kevin has used them to start a fire, but I have not. I think I need to start a list of things to try:) Thanks!" I would like to add, that women may have more batteries handy than men realize, lol. ;-) Thanks for watching! ~Kev~
By: unclearless. on 21 Feb 12, 08:46:27

Before I paste what Jill said,? I would like to say, brother, there are a few bad people out there, but most Preppers are pretty good people! I like our world! Now, Jill said "Thank you! It really helps to hear that, I am inspired to learn more, and try out some more videos:)"
By: unclearless. on 21 Feb 12, 08:34:58
I am VERY lucky! Thanks, brother. Jill said "Wow that is a cool image, I am glad to hear you have had a good experience with it:) That is very kind of you as well,? thank you for the compliment:)"
By: unclearless. on 21 Feb 12, 08:30:27
I think that was an awesome comment! Ladies need to know this! Jill? said "Thank you so much, I remember Kevin had mentioned something about the tampons being good tinder, wound dressings, etc...they might just be almost as useful as duct tape in the wild! Thank you so much for your thoughts, and positive feedback. I am definitely inspired to practice:)"
By: unclearless. on 21 Feb 12, 08:27:02
She was afraid the sparks :-) She said "Good observation, I purposefully did not practice lighting the fire because I was so excited I wanted to document the first flames...ironically the memory on the camera gave out right then:) I did practice holding the knife still and only? moving the hand holding the ferrocerium rod, and I think I was concerned about not instructing someone to use a knife the wrong way lol. Thank you for the feedback, I really do appreciate it!"
By: unclearless. on 21 Feb 12, 07:34:33
Jill said "Thank you so much for reminding me about how to keep the flame going once it has started. Kevin had told me about the petroleum jelly and materials like the fire packets used in the military, but I completely forgot about them, I was so fixated on the sparks. Good idea, I do plan to try this in the wild, that cotton ball went up fast! The inspiration "Castaway" was a sticks & stone method, I definitely have more to learn:) Thank you? again."
