Make a hanging planter out of wood
Posted by: stevinmarin
Video duration: 252 seconds
Simple hanging planter made out of redwood. Easy to make, just cut a gazillion strips of wood and cut notches in each one. If you don't have a dado stack, you could make the joints using a router. Or, to make this really easy, just glue or nail the strips together without making joints!

Besides construction suggestions already mentioned I know? this to be a very good planter set up horticulturally....with one change. Line the pot with landscapers cloth. This will allow for better aeration of the roots. With many plants, any roots that protrude will be "air sheared" so not to distract from the aesthetic. It also allows for a greater volume of soil. Depending on your agricultural zone and soil cross section you may need to water more often however.

It's not waterproof glue. But with wood that's weather exposed, the? shrinkage and expansion will break any glue joint in time. I even had the glue in mortise and tenon joints fail on patio furniture.

i agree? because its pulling apart.

It will hold. The glue is stronger than the wood. If it fails, it's probably due to poor gluing? technique.

If the wood is still green, maybe? polyurethane glue would be something to consider.

I got to hand it to you. You call yourself a hobbyist, but in my opinion, your skill level is beyond that. If you ever get tired of whatever you do? for a living, you will have guaranteed success in professional woodworking. Great work! And keep it up!

Hmm, do you realy trust the glue to hold the weight of the pots? If I would make something like this, I would drill every 4 connection parts of each segment and pull a rope trough all of ? them - that's just my suggestion.

By: MrBPhysics. on 25 May 12, 19:49:54
One thought for someone doing this from scratch: get out your dado stack first and measure the maximum width of that. Rip all of your boards to that width, and you don't have to make two passes on the table saw for the dado.? Great looking project, can't wait to make my own!
